Using Screencasts

2007-07-20 @ 00:01, Screencasts,, Comments

Screencasts -- or vodcasts -- are screen recordings with a voice-over that show you how to use applications or demonstrate techniques. They have the advantage over personal tuition that you may repeat them as often as you like.

Screencasts are easy to use. However if an area is unfamiliar, you may listen to the recording several times. The first run through, get an idea overview of what's going on, then you will want to try yourself. That is, start the application that you want to learn, and swap between the screencast and the application as you try things out.

You will want to pause the screencast whilst you do this using the controls at the bottom of the screencast window. Note also that there is a time display, so you can use the slider to find where you were up to in a previous session. It is not necessary to watch the video from the beginning each time.
